Before I begin today's adventures, last night we had a visit from Ramona, Henri, and Andres. Ramona weaves baskets, Henri is a local tailor, and Andres is the painter. They made a special trip to see us to show us what they make. It was quite a treat and maybe some of you will receive handmade gifts when we return!
This morning we visited the local market. It was an open air market, complete with fruits, veges, meats (i.e. hanging chickens), as well as clothing and household goods. The smells and sights were something truly unique. :)
After this we headed out to the orphanage and got to meet and play with some fantastic kids. We had fun tossing the football around, playing soccer, seeing the kids rooms, and just simply loving and hugging on the children.
After a great lunch back at the mission, we split up into two groups - one to finish painting and one to make/paint doors for the school. The painting group finished the outside of the church, as well as another side room inside. The door group finished their project of making doors from the rough hewn lumber and then finishing all the steps in order to have them ready to hang!
Tonight is a Fiesta night! The children that New Community sponsor, as well as some children that members of our group sponsor, are coming with their families to share a meal and spend time with us. We are very excited to meet them.
Tomorrow we head to El Cicado and will spend the day, including dinner, with Pastor Morales.
Prayer requests - someone asked for specific requests. I think the main one that all of us would echo is that our health stays strong, and that we make the most of every opportunity and what that means for each of us can be different. For some it is simply coming alongside another person, for others it is the conversation with a stranger, and for others it is using their skills to assist in ways in which only they can. For all of us, though, our main objective needs to be to model Christ and share Him and His love with those around us. So, pray that we stay focused on what we need to stay focused on.
